Preliminary Issues

The following preliminary issues are presently being administered to:

1. The eminent domain transaction has yet to be fully explained. When the state built the new road and bridge, they confiscated a portion of our sluiceway gate property. No record has been found to date where the state actually compensated the estate.

2. The county may deed over the old road bed so that our property becomes one contiguous lot provided they are allowed a right of way. Negotiations on this matter are on going.

3. A safety rail has been installed on the new road which now bars access to our site for the purposes of development. Cranes will be required to extract old equipment and install new generation equipment.

These three immediate challenges remain are our current focus.

This is the Valatia Hydro Power Electric Plant. It’s low impact appearance blends with its surroundings. It actually looks just like another home. A caretaker residence is located on the third floor, generator on the second and the turbine at ground level.

Seen here is the flat belt pulley which drives the generator shaft located on the second floor of the generation house.

The Vallatia Power Station built by Paul Eckhardt is a remarkable example of stubborn engineering. Here on the left are two GE Grid interconnects. The low impact hydro station at Vallatia produces almost 1 megawatt of electricity. While electricity would ostensibly be the product of such a facility, there is also a market for what are known as “Renewable Energy Credits”- RECS- which are sold for almost the same price as the power...sometimes for an even greater amount than the energy produced. Carbon Emission credits may also be another revenue stream for small hydro power stations in the State of New York.
