Edison Hydro Project Update
With an investment of this magnitude, it is wise to move slowly. In fact, it would be fair to say the movement is quite nearly imperceptible.
There are many moving parts to a successful conclusion to this project. Many roads must be traveled simultaneously to arrive at the moment where even just one kilowatt of power can be produced.
The photos on this page illustrate some of the progress we have made. It doesn't seem possible, but the longer we wait, we are finding, the more that gets done.
FERC Application
Our FERC Preliminary Application expires in August of 2008. The only obstacles remaining to filing our request for an exemption under the 2MW Exclusion Rule, is the approval of our project from the New York State Department of Environmental Control (DEC).
We have been told that approval with suggested DEC guidelines would be forthcoming.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs has already given us approval and as the last group to file a motion to intercede, we should be ready to file our application for our FERC license in January.
POWER Generation Capacity
We have concluded having followed 4 different methods for determining power generation potential. Our findings indicate we have the potential to generate between 260 and 320 kilowatts with a flow duration consistent enough to keep our wheels spinning for 240 days per year and accounting for system failures and maintenance.
POWER Sales
We have been told by the New York Independent System Operators Association (NYISO) that we will have find a market for our generation outside of their network as they require 1000 kw of generation. As we are producing "green" energy, National Grid, the regional utility service organization would be interested in purchasing our power on a "baseload" basis. Other utilities such as Constellation Energy and Con Edison have also indicated an interest.
POWER Transmission
One can generate all the electricity one would like to, but if you don't have a method for transmitting or "SHIPPING", ALL YOU'LL BE DOING IS SPINNING YOUR WHEELS.
When we first landed this project, the transmission lines were inadequate for "distribution of power". We had only 4800 kilovolt lines….not enough to transmit on.
Sometime in September of 2007, National Grid initiated an easement over our property and upgraded the system transmission lines to 3 Phase 13,600 volt lines.…very adequate indeed for transmission purposes. (See photo)
